OS Wars & Myths that are not

O să vorbesc în articolul de azi despre concepțiile greșite ale userilor despre sistemele de operare. O să vorbesc despre Linux, MacOS și Windows(ordine alfabetică, nu a preferințelor).

Înainte să fac asta vreau să vorbesc puțin despre ce înseamnă un sistem de operare(OS). Un OS este partea software dintr-un calculator care gestionează resursele acestuia și legăturile dintre programele ce rulează și aceste resurse. Fiecare OS are o arhitectură specifică(gestionează în mod diferit resursele). Fiecare sistem de operare are un kernel(inima sistemului) și drivere. De asemenea, vin preinstalate cu anumite programe utilitare ce permite utilizatorului să-și desfășoare activitățile necesare mai ușor.

S-au creat tot felul de mituri gen: Windows sucks, MacOS Rulz, Linux is for Geeks, Linux is Hard, etc.

False toate. Războiul dintre OSuri e total nefondat. Fiecare are avantajele și dezavantajele lui. Trebuie să fii un mare… Fanboy să nu observi asta.

Să începe cu Windows, pentru că e cel mai popular. Trebuie să recunosc că nu sunt un mare fan, dar voi rămâne obiectiv. Windows a devenit cel mai popular pentru simplul fapt că a fost lansat cu cateva săptămâni înaintea OS Xului. Din același motiv însă, a rămas și până astăzi plin de buguri si erori în securitate. Lucrul pe care-l face cel mai bine Windowsul este Gamingul. E o consecință al aceleiași lansări premature. Marile companii de jocuri au creat jocuri pentru Windows pentru că e instalat pe majoritatea calculatoarelor. S-a decalat incredibil de mult față de celelalte sisteme de operare și ar fi foarte greu să-l ajungă. Cam pentru asta ți-aș recomanda MS Windows.

Mac OS, al doilea sistem de operare ca popularitate. Mac OS este bazat pe UNIX. Deși la noi nu este foarte popular din cauza lipsei de publicitate și a prețurilor mari la care ajung sistemele Mac în Romania, în State și Europa este destul de răspândit. Popularitatea s-a se datorează în special laptopurilor pe care le face. Ele sunt lansate în serii numite Generații. Laptopurile de la Mac sunt incontestabil cele mai bune(atâta timp cât de la un laptop urmărești portabilitate și o interfață ușoară). Dar să revenim asupra OSului. Este popular pentru interfața sa grafică foarte intuitivă(unde a reușit să depășească toate celelalte sisteme de operare). Deși mai puțin popular pentru asta, OS X excelează în editarea video și audio. Este folosit de majoritatea studiourilor de cinematografie sau a producătorilor de muzică. Dacă vrei să face editare multimedia, sau să utilizezi eficient și rapid calculatorul pentru sarcini de zi cu zi, îți recomand OS X(și un sistem Mac). 

Linux, este cel mai puțin popular OS dintre toate. Are o reputație mai proastă pentru că se spune că este greu de instalat, configurat și utilizat. Ultima afirmație era foarte adevărată, însă acum 10 ani. Acum Linuxul se comportă la fel ca orice alt sistem de operare. Trebuie doar să știi ce distribuție îți alegi. Cea mai cunoscută și longevivă este Fedora, dar recent a fost depășită de Ubuntu Linux, care datorită eforturilor programatorilor a devenit foarte User Friendly. Acum în 20 de minute îți poți instala cu ușurință un sistem Linux pe orice calculator. Dar…pentru ce e bun Linuxul? Păi…vine cu programe preinstalate pentru editarea documentelor(suita Open Office) care sunt la fel de bune(dar mai rapide) ca Microsoft Office.

Dacă te interesează și programarea, atunci Linux este sistemul de operare care ți se potrivește. Poți compila și rula programe printr-o singură comandă dintr-un terminal. Lucru mult mai rapid și eficient decât pe un sistem Windows. De asemenea, Linux rulează mai rapid decât WIndows și necesită mult mai puține resurse. Dacă ai un calculator vechi pe acasă și crezi că nu-l mai poți folosi, încearcă Linux.

În final…sper că v-am convins că nu există un sistem de operare mai bun decât altul(doar mai bun în anumite domenii) și sper să răspândiți și voi caracteristicile evidențiate mai sus celorlalți Fanboy. Concluzie personală:

Windows – Gaming

OS X – Day to day using + Multimedia Editor

Linux – Document Editor + Programming + Web Server

Oțel

Eu nu am ochi. Văd doar atunci când te uiți la mine. Povestea mea e una simplă. Începe într-un magazin de vânătoare. Eram așezat pe un raft alături de alții ca mine. Nu știam că ei există, și nici ei nu erau conștienți de prezența mea.

Trecuse o săptămână(sau poate o lună). E greu să ții evidența timpului atunci când vezi rar ce se întâmplă în jurul tot și ești tot timpul rece. Un bărbat îmbrăcat într-o haină de piele roasă și prăfuită m-a ridicat de pe raft, s-a uitat la mine, m-a rotit pe toate părțile și apoi m-a pus înapoi. Nu au fost decât două minute, dar atunci i-am văzut pe ceilalți și în ei m-am văzut pe mine pentru prima dată. Dar am văzut-o și pe ea. O oglindă ce, asemenea mie, vedea doar atunci când cineva se reflecta în ea. Am crezut că mi-a zâmbit, dar ar fi putut fi doar cel ce se privea pe sine în ea.

Peste ceva timp am fost cumpărat de un băiat. În drum spre ieșire a alunecat, eu i-am scăpat din buzunar și am văzut oglinda spărgându-se zgomotos. Am stat apoi multă vreme pe întuneric neputându-mă gândind decât la oglindă.

Într-o seară am văzut din nou lumea. Era iarna și era mai albă ca de obicei. A fost prima dată când am văzut zăpada. Am văzut luna în ochii băiatului, dar nu-mi plăcea. Știam că n-o s-o ating niciodată. Apoi am văzut o femeie ce se apropia de noi. Nu ne vedea. Era singurul om pe străduța aceea. El s-a apropiat de ea și m-a pus la gâtul ei. M-a ridicat ușor până la nivelul ochilor și i-am putut vedea fața îngrozită și disperată.

Nu am mai văzut nimic, dar i-am simțit sângele cald ce-I curgea pe mine. Eram cald pentru prima dată. M-a șters pe o bucată din haina ei și am văzut o pată roșie în zăpadă. De atunci am uitat de tot de oglinda din magazin, dar m-am îndrăgostit în fiecare seară de balta aburindă de sânge din zăpadă.

Cool

Mdea…Drama oricărui constipat de 12-17 ani e să fie cool. Și ce e mai cool decat să ai o părere sau să crezi că ai o părere pe care o susții cu mândrie doar pt ca e diferită față de a celorlalți. Așa se nasc copiii frustrați, care nu prea sunt băgați în seama și copiii ”cool” care sunt teribiliști și fac orice pentru a ieși în evidență. Dacă nu au curajul să facă asta, se dau în spectacol pe tot felu de bloguri și tot încearcă ceva. Sunt, normal, admirați de o groază de copii prea slabi să-și formeze o personalitate. Un fel de rockstari sau Iisuși ce trăiesc printre noi.

D’oh băi manelalure sau wanna-be rocker sau rapper sau orice. Nu mai fi biassed, nu-ți mai impune un stil de muzică. Ești complex. Nu te reprezintă doar păru, doar banii sau mau știu eu ce alte căcaturi reprezintă valori pentru tine(like…blogul). Be your dumb self și până la urmă ceilalți te acceptă. Așa nu ne mai stresezi nici pe noi, nu te mai faci nici de râs. Ok? Acum ștergeți blogul și du-te și plângi puțin în colț

Notes to Self – Part I

I’ll publish this posts in english because It feels more comfortable doing it. You will understand some parts of these notes, some paragraphs will only make sense to myself and some are just raw and uncontrolled thoughts that even I can’t understand.

Foreword: Sorry for the eventual English mistakes I’ll make.

Purpose: I just need to lay my thoughts somewhere where I can go back to them and writing them in a .txt seems a little bit silly. I also want to keep track of time lines as I put some pieces of the puzzle together. In the end this is just a fight with myself as I try to figure me out. So here I go.

Lately I’ve been reading “Dream Psychology”, by Freud. I guess it had some sort of impact on me; not because I started to try to analise my dreams. That would be a normal reaction when reading such a book. But I think that since I read it(and it has only been a week or so) my dreams are more twisted. I may try to describe sometimes when they are not to private and when they will make some sense to you. Some notes related to behaviour and dreams: Everything, and I mean everything you do that misfits even with a slight variation your daily reflexes, leaves a footprint on your brain. You don’t notice it, because it’s somewhere in the primitive part of the brain and you adapt faster. But the memory stays there and is sometimes reflected in your dreams.

For example: one night I dreamed that I was eating coconut cake. It was something I never ate before, but the dream was full of substance. I started to wonder why coconut cake. Freud described this kind of dreams as “Desire Dreams”. And the explanation for me was simple. That day, my mother told me that she made brownies for me, but they are at my grandma’s house. Later on I found that she burnt the brownies. I really like them, so I was kind of dissapointed. But brownies don’t have coconuts in them. Then I remembered that in the same day I ate a Bounty, another favourite snack of mine. So in the dreams, they mixed together. And now they make sense to me. It just feels good to know what your dreams mean.

Leaving the dreams behind and coming to the real world. Because of the new school schedule I sleep at night. And I started to see the world more clear.  But the wakening of my nerves only caused me troubles. Brain troubles if I can say that. I often think more than I should and my personality is starting to change. And don’t like that, but if I try to fight it, it will only change me more. Oh…I have a personal life style guide. I think that I should always follow the natural course of events and things will work out fine. And so far so good. I didn’t interfeerd to much. So…I will get over this bad time for my personality. I just need some time to fit in(and I couldn’t imagine myself saying that in the past).

I also notice that I started to worry. Not too much. I don’t have time and I have better things to do. Like what? Well…staring at the walls is better. I also think a lot of non-sense that I find intersting when I think it. And I say to myself: I’ll blog it when I’ll have time. But when I get home I either forget, don’t feel like blogging, don’t have time or think that blogging such bullcrap would be silly.

I’m always alert and I’m paying atention to even the most unsignificant details. I index them and analise them. I have a bad short-term memory, but a good long-term one. I rarely forget what happened to me a month ago or what song played when I was doing X. (In opposite: I often forget if I locked the door. If I go and analise that I might say that it is because it is a basic instinct of my brain. I don’t think anymore when I lock the door. I just know I must do it.)

I also think algorithmic. I make connections between stuff you I(or you) wouldn’t guess they have anything to do with each other. Sometimes I amaze myself(rarely the others). I can easily tell when someone is lying, but often play dumb(imagine how many people I would freak out). I don’t blame people for lying because I myself am a pathological liar. And I kinda enjoy doing it.

This is the end of the first part of Note to Self. Depending on how often I’ll write them, this could be the longest one, or just a regular part. I incline to think that I will write often but short posts because I’m not always in the mood for writing such long articles(or I don’t have enough time to spare).

     BABY – create new process from two parent processes

SYNOPSIS
     BABY sex [ name ]

SYSTEM V SYNOPSIS
     /usr/5bin/BABY [ -sex ] [ -name ]

AVAILABILITY
     The System V version of this command is available with the Sys-
     tem  V  software  installation  option.  Refer to Installing
     SunOS 4.1 for information on how to install and invoke BABY.

DESCRIPTION
     BABY is initiated when one parent process polls another server
process through a socket connection (BSD) or through pipes in the
system V implementation. BABY runs at a low priority for approximately
40 weeks then terminates with heavy system load. Most systems require
constant monitoring when BABY reaches it’s final stages of execution.

        Older implementations of BABY required that the initiating
process not be present at the time of completion, In these versions
the initiating process is awakened and notified of the results upon
completion. Modern versions allow both parent processes to be active
during the final stages of BABY.

RESULT
     Successful execution of the BABY(1) results in new process

     which must be handled by one or more parent.

     BABY processes upon being created may frequently dump
     in /tmp requiring /tmp to be cleaned out frequently by one
     of the parent processes.

     The original AT&T version was provided without instructions
     regarding the created process, this remains in current implementations.

So…septembrie e  cea mai tristă lună. School starts! Şi nu neapărat school starts…Nu suntem clasă cu intensiv informatică…Aşa că ori că termin mate info, ori filologie…tot una îmi e…Fără atestat…Mda…dacă mă ştiţi, atunci ştiţi că ăsta mi-a fost sloganu de ceva timp, dar mă seacă rău faza. It feels like something is stole from me…

Oricum…Bine că mi-am deblocat telefonu. Un N81. Aşteptam de ceva timp după el aşa că…it’s good news

Cam atât pentru azi că mâine mă trezesc la 6 40.

Aaa…da…M-am apucat de socket programming si am o idee pentru un proiect destul de marfă. Nu ştiu dacă există aplicaţii similare open source, dar proiectu sigur o să fie OSS. Am nevoie de un om pt GUI. Să ştie preferabil GTK. O să scriu mâine un articol detaliat.
